2023 Federal Budget
On Tuesday 9 May, Treasurer Jim Chalmers handed down the 2023 Federal Budget, which was eagerly awaited given increasing cost of living pressures and recent interest rate rises impacting the financial situation of many Australians.
In the lead up to Budget night, the Treasurer flagged three key priorities — cost of living relief, growing the economy and ensuring Australia is more resilient to international shocks.
Some of the key announcements made include:
- An expected surplus of $4.2 billion for 2022/23.
- A $14.6 billion cost of living relief package.
- Confirmation of previously announced changes to superannuation tax concessions.
